Company Overview

This is based on what seems to be the “new thing” in Shanghai a hidden location. The bar boasts almost no signage with only a small monkey on the door, which is very hard to see when walking down the dark alley way. When you find the monkey you will need to buzz to be let in. The decor is sublime, minimal and dimly lit and is filled with loads of textures and rich fabrics. It is a nice new place to hang out sipping expensive cocktails.

Photo Retouch and Illustration

The concept was to use images of monkeys and appropriate them into different periods of time using the artform of that time to convey this.

Aswell as the idea of secrecy and that some places can be hidden and special we also wanted to throw monkeys into this mix just because, well they’re just plain funny.

Monkeys were there too don’t you know

If you could imagine that evolution stopped at monkeys and didn’t go beyond this then you may be able to imagine in some way if monkeys went through the same periods of time we have. The renaissance, wars, politics and different cultures.

I tried to convey this through the use of famous paintings, art movements and art pieces which are well known. The spin is that monkeys replace humans in all of the portraits.
